CSPI compatible 10G-SFP-SR Description

CSPI 10G-SFP-SR is a 10GBASE-SR SFP+ transceiver coded for CSPI Myricom enterprise and high-performance-computing NIC platforms, and for CSPI Modulus enterprise switches with SFP+ uplink cages. CSPI acquired Myricom in 2013, and modern Myricom 10GbE adapters ship under CSPI branding. The EdgeOptic compatible carries CSPI-recognized EEPROM, so the host reports the optic with its expected CSPI attribution on Myricom 10G-PCIE2 series NICs and on Modulus switch SFP+ ports under stock driver and firmware configuration.

Protocol is IEEE 802.3ae Clause 52 10GBASE-SR at a fixed 10.3125 Gbps line rate. 10GBASE-SR is a fixed-rate physical layer, so dual-rate 1G/10G behavior belongs to a separate optic class rather than to this part. Optical build uses an 850 nm VCSEL transmitter and 850 nm PIN photodiode receiver, 6.1 dB minimum link budget, duplex LC connector and SFP+ MSA (SFF-8432) mechanical envelope. Reach is 300 m over OM3 and 400 m over OM4, with 82 m over OM2 and 33 m over OM1 for legacy multimode. SFF-8472 DDM/DOM publishes Tx power, Rx power, laser bias, module temperature and supply voltage to the host for per-port optical telemetry.

Typical deployment is server-to-ToR 10GbE uplinks between Myricom 10G-PCIE2 NICs in compute or HPC nodes and CSPI Modulus or adjacent top-of-rack switches, over pre-installed OM3 or OM4 multimode trunks inside a single data center hall. On Linux hosts, the Myricom driver exposes SFF-8472 DDM fields through the standard ethtool interface, so existing fleet-monitoring scripts keep working after an optic refresh. Commercial operating range is 0 to 70 degrees Celsius. For fleet-scale Myricom NIC refreshes or matched optic orders across a mixed Modulus and HPC estate, please contact our sales team with the host adapter inventory list. EdgeOptic programs each optic's EEPROM against the Myricom or Modulus host it is bound for, so the receiving platform logs the expected CSPI attribution on first insertion. Subsequent platform upgrades across the HPC cluster keep their CSPI vendor-ID alignment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is CSPI 10G-SFP-SR a dual-rate 1G/10G optic or fixed 10GBASE-SR?

10G-SFP-SR is a single-rate 10GBASE-SR SFP+ module at 10.3125 Gbps per IEEE 802.3ae Clause 52. It is a fixed-rate physical layer and does not implement 1000BASE-X PHY mode; dual-rate 1G/10G behavior belongs to a separate optic class.

Which CSPI and Myricom platforms accept 10G-SFP-SR?

10G-SFP-SR is coded for CSPI Myricom 10G-PCIE2 series NICs on compute and HPC hosts, and for CSPI Modulus enterprise switches with SFP+ uplink cages. The EdgeOptic compatible carries CSPI-recognized EEPROM so both platforms report the optic with its expected CSPI attribution under stock configuration.

How are DDM readings for 10G-SFP-SR exposed on Myricom hosts?

On Linux hosts, SFF-8472 diagnostic readings (Tx power, Rx power, laser bias, module temperature, supply voltage) are read through the standard ethtool -m interface on the Myricom network adapter. Modulus switches expose the same data through per-port show-transceiver commands.
