The original Nortel and Avaya AA1419042-E5 was supplied as a GBIC (Gigabit Interface Converter), a physically larger module that fits GBIC slots; the EdgeOptic compatible is an SFP and fits SFP slots, so the two are not drop-in interchangeable. The original Nortel and Avaya AA1419042-E5 is a GBIC module rated for 1000BASE-T over Cat 5, Cat 5e, or Cat 6 copper at up to 100 m.
