10/100/1000BASE-T Copper SFP Transceiver: 1000M-SFP-T

10/100/1000BASE-T Copper SFP Overview
The 1000M-SFP-T is a multi-vendor copper SFP module that brings tri-speed Ethernet to any SFP slot over standard twisted pair cabling. It auto-negotiates 10BASE-T, 100BASE-T, and 1000BASE-T, so the same module serves legacy 10/100 Mbps links and full Gigabit Ethernet without a separate media converter. The RJ45 interface reaches up to 100m over Category 5 or better cabling, with DDM support and a standard 0°C to 70°C commercial temperature range. It runs from a single +3.3V supply and is hot-pluggable per the SFP MSA.

10/100/1000BASE-T Copper SFP Transceiver Description
The 1000M-SFP-T is a multi-vendor compatible 10/100/1000BASE-T copper SFP module that lets SFP-equipped switches and routers connect over standard copper twisted pair cabling. It is a cost-effective option for short-reach links in data centers, enterprise networks, and industrial sites where fiber is not required, or where reusing existing copper cabling is the more practical choice.
The module supports auto-negotiation across 10BASE-T, 100BASE-T, and 1000BASE-T, with multi-speed operation from 10 Mbps to 1 Gbps over Category 5 or better twisted pair cabling. This tri-speed capability allows the same part to serve legacy 10/100 Mbps equipment and full Gigabit Ethernet links. An integrated RJ45 connector provides direct copper connectivity with no external media converter or cabling adapter. Transmission distance reaches up to 100 meters over Category 5 or better unshielded twisted pair, with Cat5e and Cat6 also supported. The maximum Gigabit reach follows IEEE 802.3ab for 1000BASE-T copper media.
The 1000M-SFP-T is hot-pluggable with an RJ45 electrical interface. The host-side interface conforms to INF-8074i and the SFP MSA (Multi-Source Agreement), so the module fits standard SFP host systems across multiple vendor equipment platforms. It can be coded for compatibility with a wide range of equipment brands, allowing direct integration into existing network infrastructure. Digital diagnostics monitoring (DDM) is supported where the host equipment exposes it, giving real-time visibility into module operating parameters.
The SFP form factor remains widely deployed across enterprise, carrier, and industrial networks because of its proven reliability and broad equipment support. Copper SFP modules are a good fit where fiber is unnecessary, such as server-to-switch links inside a single rack, management interfaces, out-of-band connectivity, and integration with legacy copper infrastructure. The module operates within a standard 0°C to 70°C commercial temperature range, suited to typical data center and enterprise equipment-room conditions. Sites that need a wider operating window should look at the extended-temperature 1000M-SFP-TI variant instead. Power is supplied from a single +3.3V rail, with the integrated PHY circuitry needed for copper signal processing.
Standards compliance covers IEEE 802.3 for 10BASE-T, IEEE 802.3u for 100BASE-TX, and IEEE 802.3ab for 1000BASE-T. Multi-vendor interoperability comes from adherence to the SFP MSA, though equipment with vendor-specific module validation may require EEPROM coding matched to the host. The module is CE and RoHS certified, and suits any SFP-slot link that needs copper rather than fiber.
Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor networking platforms, the 1000M-SFP-T is in EU stock and ships the next business day with a lifetime warranty. Frequently Asked Questions
Will a 1000BASE-T copper SFP work in an SFP+ port?
It depends on the switch. The 1000M-SFP-T is a 1G copper module, and many SFP+ ports default to 10G and will not link a 1G copper SFP without configuration. On some Cisco Catalyst platforms, for example, the port may need an explicit 1G port-speed configuration before a 1G copper SFP will link. Some hosts do not support 1000BASE-T in SFP+ cages at all. Check the chassis transceiver table or port configuration guide, and set the port speed to 1G before deployment.
Does this copper SFP support 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps, or is it gigabit-only?
It is tri-speed. The 1000M-SFP-T auto-negotiates 10BASE-T, 100BASE-T, and 1000BASE-T, so it serves 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps links as well as full Gigabit Ethernet. The maximum rate is 1 Gbps. It is not a 10GBASE-T module, so confirm the target link is 1G or slower before ordering. For 10G copper, a separate 10GBASE-T SFP+ part is required.
What cable category does a 1000BASE-T copper SFP require, and does it work over Cat5e or Cat6?
IEEE 802.3ab specifies 4-pair Category 5 unshielded twisted pair for 1000BASE-T at up to 100 meters. Cat5e and Cat6 are backward-compatible and work as well, which makes the 1000M-SFP-T straightforward to deploy over existing structured cabling. For best Gigabit margin on longer runs, Cat5e or Cat6 is the practical choice.
