455884-B21 HPE BladeSystem Compatible 10GBASE-SR SFP+ Transceiver

HPE 455884-B21 is the BladeSystem 10GBASE-SR SFP+ transceiver commonly shipped with Virtual Connect Flex-10 kits for HPE c-Class BladeSystem chassis. The EdgeOptic compatible carries HPE-recognized EEPROM, and is intended for Flex-10, Flex-10/10D and FlexFabric 10/24 interconnect modules on c3000 and c7000 enclosures. Acceptance under Virtual Connect Manager depends on the installed VC firmware revision, and Flex-10D firmware loads may enforce stricter OEM-optic checks than earlier releases. The same module also fits the SFP+ uplink cages on HPE FlexFabric 5900 and 5920 top-of-rack switches that sit adjacent to BladeSystem enclosures in converged data center rows.

Optical build follows IEEE 802.3ae Clause 52 at a fixed 10.3125 Gbps line rate. Transmitter is an 850 nm VCSEL; receiver is an 850 nm PIN photodiode. The minimum link budget is 6.1 dB, which supports 300 m over OM3 and 400 m over OM4, with reduced reach of 82 m over OM2 and 33 m over OM1 on legacy multimode plant. Mechanical and electrical interface is the SFP+ MSA (SFF-8432) with a duplex LC connector. SFF-8472 DDM/DOM publishes Tx power, Rx power, laser bias, module temperature and supply voltage to the host, visible through Virtual Connect Manager and through show transceiver on FlexFabric uplink switches.

Typical deployment is c7000 enclosure uplinks from Flex-10 or FlexFabric interconnect modules to a FlexFabric 5900/5920 top-of-rack, and shorter chassis-to-chassis aggregation runs inside a single data center hall over OM3 or OM4 multimode trunks. Because the EEPROM carries the HPE vendor ID block, the interconnect module logs the optic with its expected HPE part-number attribution, where the installed VC firmware permits qualified third-party optics under its active policy. Commercial operating range is 0 to 70 degrees Celsius.
