HPE AJ716A Compatible 8GFC Short Wave B-Series SFP+

EdgeOptic's AJ716A compatible is an HPE-coded version of the EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-300 multi-rate SFP+ transceiver, supplied for 8 Gbps Fibre Channel Short Wave operation on HPE B-Series storage fabric switches and HPE BladeSystem Virtual Connect Fibre Channel modules. HPE-recognized EEPROM lets the optic register cleanly on the B-Series SAN fabric, so the chassis accepts the module as the OEM AJ716A 1-pack form. AJ716A is HPE's ordering code for the Brocade-coded 8 Gb Short Wave SFP+ in HPE's B-Series storage networking line.

Reach is up to 380 m on OM3 multi-mode fiber at 8.5 Gbps per the AJ716A product specification, with 150 m on OM2 at the same rate per FC-PI-4 Table 16. The part runs at 2.125, 4.25 and 8.5 Gbps and is deployed in HPE B-Series storage fabric switches and BladeSystem Virtual Connect Fibre Channel modules, where 'B-Series' identifies HPE's Brocade-OEM SAN switching product line. AJ716A and the later AJ716B are revisions of the same 8GFC Short Wave SFP+ in HPE's catalog: compatibility differences between the two revisions have been reported in certain BladeSystem Virtual Connect configurations, so the chassis transceiver inventory may track the revision identifier when reporting installed optics.

When coded for the HPE B-Series 8GFC EEPROM identifier, the optic registers on the SAN fabric as the AJ716A Fibre Channel transceiver and the switch firmware auto-negotiates the link to the negotiated Fibre Channel rate, typically 8 Gbps with 4 Gbps and 2 Gbps backward compatibility on older fabric switches.
