HP compatible C8R23A Description
HPE C8R23A is the MSA 8Gb Short Wave Fibre Channel SFP sold into HPE MSA 1040, MSA 1050, MSA 2040 and MSA 2050 storage arrays, where the host ports expose 8Gb FC connectivity to Brocade or Cisco MDS fabrics in front of the array. C8R23A revision A is the earlier HPE production revision shipped with the initial MSA 1040/2040 generation; C8R23B (rev B) is the later respin of the same optical design that rolled out with MSA 1050/2050 refreshes. Both revisions are functionally interchangeable on MSA host ports and carry the same FC-PI-4 optical performance. Electrically the module is a FC-PI-4 SW optic (T11.3 INCITS 424-2007) running 8.5 Gbps with backward support for 4G FC (4.25 Gbps) and 2G FC (2.125 Gbps) so the array can negotiate down to a legacy fabric if needed. HPE datasheets classify this part as an SFP rather than SFP+, and it installs into the SFP-cage FC host ports on MSA controllers rather than any SFP+ Ethernet cage.
