E65689-001 is the Intel service-part reference for a 10GBASE-SR SFP+ shipped with Intel Ethernet adapter kits, primarily the X520-SR1 single-port and X520-SR2 dual-port SFP+ adapters. The EEPROM carries Intel-recognized vendor programming so X520, X710 and older Intel 82599-based NICs accept the optic under stock ixgbe and i40e drivers without the allow_unsupported_sfp module parameter. The module is 10 Gigabit Ethernet only. Maximum reach is 300 m over OM3 and 400 m over OM4 per IEEE 802.3ae Clause 52, and the module is not a multi-rate Fibre Channel part.

Optical build uses an 850 nm VCSEL transmitter and 850 nm PIN photodiode receiver, 6.1 dB minimum link budget, duplex LC connector and SFP+ MSA (SFF-8432) mechanical envelope. Line rate is 10.3125 Gbps. Reach is 300 m over OM3 and 400 m over OM4, with 82 m over OM2 and 33 m over OM1 for legacy multimode. SFF-8472 DDM/DOM publishes Tx power, Rx power, laser bias, module temperature and supply voltage to the host, readable from ethtool -m on Linux and from Intel PROSet on Windows. Qualified host platforms are Intel X520 family adapters (X520-SR1, X520-SR2, X520-DA2), the X710 family (X710-DA2, X710-DA4) and older 82599-based NICs. X540 and X550 are 10GBASE-T copper NICs with RJ45 cages and do not accept any SFP+ module; E65689-001 will not seat in those adapters.
