Intel compatible E65689-003 Description

EdgeOptic's E65689-003 compatible is an Intel-coded 10GBASE-SR SFP+ aligned with the Intel service-part revision -003. The -001, -002 and -003 suffixes are successive Intel service-part revisions on the same E65689 family: each revision identifies a specific PBA and firmware build of a functionally equivalent 10GBASE-SR SFP+ optic. Integrator and channel spare-kit inventories often call out a specific revision so the replacement matches the original reference. Host platforms are the Intel 10GbE SFP+ NIC family: the X520 series (X520-DA2, X520-SR2, X520-SR1), the X710 series (X710-DA2, X710-DA4), older 82599-based NICs and the E810-XXVDA2 at 10G back-rate. X540 and X550 are 10GBASE-T copper NICs without SFP+ cages and are not in scope for this optic.

Optical performance follows IEEE 802.3ae Clause 52 at 10.3125 Gbps line rate, with an 850 nm VCSEL transmitter, an 850 nm PIN photodiode receiver and a 6.1 dB link budget. Reach is 300 m on OM3 and 400 m on OM4 over a duplex LC multimode interface, with approximately 82 m on OM2 and 33 m on OM1. The part is single-rate 10GbE and does not rate-select to 1GbE on the Intel NIC SFP+ cages. Mechanical envelope is the SFP+ MSA (SFF-8432) with SFF-8472 digital diagnostics exposing TX power, RX power, laser bias current, supply voltage and case temperature. On Linux the host driver depends on the NIC silicon: ixgbe for 82599 and X520, i40e for X710 and ice for E810; 'ethtool -m [iface]' exposes the SFF-8472 page. On Windows the Intel PROSet utility reports the transceiver inventory.

EdgeOptic programs the EEPROM with Intel vendor identifiers so the NIC firmware reports the module under the expected Intel PID at port bring-up on X520, X710, 82599 and E810-XXVDA2 host adapters. The -003 revision is the later service-part reference in the E65689 family, while -001 is the earliest revision; Order the revision that matches the install-base spare-kit inventory. Firmware and PBA details may differ between revisions, even when the optical function is the same. The module conforms to the SFP+ MSA and is CE/RoHS certified. Frequently Asked Questions

How does E65689-003 differ from E65689-001?

Both are Intel service-part references for the same 10GBASE-SR SFP+ optic family. -001 is the earliest revision and -003 is a later revision; the revisions may differ in PBA, firmware build or optical-module sub-vendor while remaining functionally equivalent 10GBASE-SR parts. Match the service part to the install-base spare-kit inventory where a specific -xxx revision is called out.

Which Intel NICs host E65689-003?

Intel X520 family (X520-DA2, X520-SR2, X520-SR1), X710 family (X710-DA2, X710-DA4), older 82599-based NICs and the E810-XXVDA2 at 10G back-rate. X540 and X550 are 10GBASE-T copper NICs without SFP+ cages and are not in scope for this SKU.

How is diagnostic data read on an Intel NIC SFP+ port?

On Linux 'ethtool -m [iface]' exposes the SFF-8472 page on the NIC port, with the host driver selected by the NIC silicon: ixgbe for 82599 and X520, i40e for X710, ice for E810. On Windows the Intel PROSet utility reports the transceiver inventory and DDM values.
