Juniper compatible QFX-SFP-10GE-USR Description
EdgeOptic's QFX-SFP-10GE-USR compatible is the 10GBASE-SR SFP+ upgrade alternative for the legacy Juniper QFX-SFP-10GE-USR 10GBASE-USR module. The original QFX-SFP-10GE-USR is a 10 Gbps Ultra Short Reach SFP+ for Juniper QFX-series switches, rated to 100 m on OM3 multimode fiber and designed for ultra-short-reach intra-rack connectivity. The module is deployed within Juniper QFX-series spine and leaf switching for short-reach intra-rack links between top-of-rack and end-of-row positions.
The EdgeOptic 10GBASE-SR SFP+ replacement shares the same SFP+ cage, LC duplex interface, and 850 nm VCSEL transmitter as the original USR, and extends the reach envelope to 300 m on OM3 and 400 m on OM4 multimode fiber, a full superset of the original USR distance class. The replacement is built to IEEE 802.3ae 10GBASE-SR with a 6.1 dB optical budget, transmit power between −5 and 0 dBm, and receive sensitivity better than −11.1 dBm. The SFP+ host cage on Juniper QFX-series platforms that previously accepted the QFX-SFP-10GE-USR ordering code is the same physical interface, so no cage migration is required.
Juniper-recognized EEPROM coding identifies the module under the ordering code that the host expects, so the SFP+ registers cleanly under the standard transceiver acceptance policy on QFX-series platforms. Digital diagnostics per SFF-8472 reports temperature, supply voltage, transmit bias current, transmit power, and receive power on every read. The EdgeOptic SR replacement is governed by IEEE 802.3ae Clause 52 for 10GBASE-SR multimode operation, and SFF-8431 governs the SFP+ electrical and mechanical interface. Verify the specific QFX-series switch model and Junos release against the Juniper transceiver support documentation on the deployment side before commissioning.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the QFX-SFP-10GE-USR a drop-in replacement for the QFX-SFP-10GE-SR on Juniper QFX switches?
Yes for the host port. Both QFX-SFP-10GE-USR and QFX-SFP-10GE-SR use the SFP+ cage and the LC duplex interface, so the EdgeOptic 10GBASE-SR SFP+ drops into the same Juniper QFX-series port that previously took the USR ordering code. The reach class differs: the original QFX-SFP-10GE-USR is rated to 100 m on OM3, while the SR module reaches 300 m on OM3 and 400 m on OM4. Confirm the deployed link distance and fiber type before substituting.
