Lenovo compatible 00WC087 Description

00WC087 is a Lenovo 10GBASE-SR SFP+ transceiver shipped with Lenovo server and RackSwitch kits. The 00WCxxx prefix comes from the post-2014 Lenovo inventory scheme adopted after Lenovo acquired IBM System x. The EEPROM is programmed against Lenovo firmware expectations, not the earlier IBM-era coding. The EdgeOptic compatible targets Lenovo System x3550 M4/M5 and x3650 M4/M5 servers, ThinkSystem SR530, SR630, SR650 and SR850 rack servers, Lenovo Flex System x240 and x440 compute nodes paired with mezzanine adapters that expose external SFP+ cages (such as CN4054 and CN4054S), and Lenovo RackSwitch G8272, G8296 and G8332 top-of-rack switches.

Protocol is IEEE 802.3ae Clause 52 10GBASE-SR at a fixed 10.3125 Gbps line rate. Optical build uses an 850 nm VCSEL transmitter, 850 nm PIN photodiode receiver and 6.1 dB minimum link budget. Reach is 300 m over OM3 and 400 m over OM4, with 82 m over OM2 and 33 m over OM1 for legacy multimode. The module is built to the SFP+ MSA (SFF-8432) mechanical and electrical envelope with a duplex LC connector. SFF-8472 DDM/DOM publishes Tx power, Rx power, laser bias, module temperature and supply voltage to the host, readable through the RackSwitch OS transceiver diagnostic commands and through ThinkSystem XCC on Lenovo server platforms.

Typical deployment is server-to-ToR 10GbE uplinks between ThinkSystem SR630 or SR650 rack servers and RackSwitch G8272 or G8296 top-of-rack chassis over pre-installed OM3 or OM4 multimode trunks, and Flex System compute-node uplinks from x240 and x440 nodes through the Flex System interconnect modules. System x3550 M4 and x3650 M4 servers predating the 2014 split retain support through the Lenovo firmware line; 00WC087 is qualified against those platforms. Commercial operating range is 0 to 70 degrees Celsius. For mixed System x and ThinkSystem estates that need matched optics across both generations, please contact our sales team with the host server and switch inventory list.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Lenovo servers and switches accept 00WC087?

00WC087 is coded for Lenovo System x3550 M4/M5 and x3650 M4/M5, ThinkSystem SR530, SR630, SR650 and SR850 rack servers, Flex System x240 and x440 compute nodes paired with mezzanine adapters that expose external SFP+ cages (such as CN4054 and CN4054S), and Lenovo RackSwitch G8272, G8296 and G8332 top-of-rack switches.

Does the 00WCxxx prefix indicate a post-split Lenovo part?

Yes. Lenovo acquired IBM System x in 2014, and parts with the 00WCxxx prefix come from the post-split Lenovo inventory scheme. The EEPROM is programmed against what Lenovo firmware expects rather than the earlier IBM-era coding.

Is DDM telemetry for 00WC087 available from ThinkSystem XCC?

Yes. SFF-8472 diagnostic readings (Tx power, Rx power, laser bias, module temperature, supply voltage) are exposed through ThinkSystem XCC on server platforms and through the RackSwitch OS transceiver diagnostic commands on G8272, G8296 and G8332.
