8-Channel Double Fiber Expandable CCWDM Mux/Demux Overview

The DCMD-8HE is an 8-channel dual fiber passive CWDM mux/demux built in an LGX cassette for rack mount installation, covering the eight high band ITU-T G.694.2 channels from 1471 to 1611 nm with LC/UPC connectors. An integrated expansion port lets the unit add low band channel capacity later using a DCMD-8L or DCMD-4L unit, so a network can grow its CWDM channel count without replacing the installed high band cassette.

8 Channels Double Fiber Expandable Passive CWDM Mux/Demux Description

The DCMD-8HE is an 8-channel dual fiber passive CWDM multiplexer/demultiplexer built as an LGX cassette module. The unit combines and separates eight wavelengths onto a single fiber pair using compact CWDM (CCWDM) free space filter technology, with LC/UPC connectors on the channel and line ports.

ITU-T G.694.2 defines the CWDM wavelength grid at 20 nm spacing across 18 channels from 1271 to 1611 nm. The DCMD-8HE covers the eight high band channels in that grid, centered at 1471, 1491, 1511, 1531, 1551, 1571, 1591 and 1611 nm, each with a passband of ±6.5 nm around its center wavelength.

Insertion loss is 1.5 dB across the passband and 1.5 dB through the expansion path, with channel passband ripple held to 0.3 dB. Isolation is 30 dB between adjacent channels and 40 dB between non-adjacent channels, with 45 dB return loss and 50 dB directivity. Polarization dependent loss is 0.2 dB and polarization mode dispersion is 0.1 ps. Maximum power handling is 500 mW. A 1% monitoring port, at 23 dB insertion loss, taps a small fraction of the line signal for optical power monitoring without breaking the main signal path.

The DCMD-8HE adds an integrated expansion port to the same eight high band channel plan used on the DCMD-8H, which shares the same eight channels and price but has no expansion port. The expansion port lets a completed high band mux/demux add low band channel capacity later by connecting a DCMD-8L eight channel low band unit or a DCMD-4L four channel low band unit downstream, growing the CWDM system without swapping out the installed high band cassette.

The LGX cassette mounts into a standard LGX shelf or rack mount fiber enclosure alongside other LGX modules. On the line side, one fiber carries all eight combined wavelengths outbound while a separate fiber carries them inbound, the double fiber design used across the DCMD family instead of a single bidirectional line fiber as in a BiDi design. Each individual channel port is a single fiber connection for its one wavelength. Operating temperature runs from 0°C to 70°C at 5% to 95% humidity, with a storage range of −40°C to 85°C.

The DCMD-8HE carries CE, ISO and RoHS compliance and follows the ITU-T G.694.2 CWDM channel plan, with a rated mean time between failures of 1,000,000 hours. This item ships as a special order; for lead time confirmation or project quantity pricing, contact our sales team.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the DCMD-8HE and the DCMD-8H?

The DCMD-8HE and DCMD-8H cover the same eight high band CWDM channels at 1471 to 1611 nm and share the same price. The DCMD-8HE adds an integrated expansion port for connecting a low band expansion unit later. The DCMD-8H has no expansion port, so it stays a fixed eight channel unit.

How does the DCMD-8HE expansion port work with the DCMD-8L or DCMD-4L?

The DCMD-8HE expansion port carries an insertion loss of 1.5 dB and connects downstream to a DCMD-8L eight channel low band unit or a DCMD-4L four channel low band unit. This lets a network add low band CWDM channels to the existing high band line without swapping out the installed DCMD-8HE cassette.

Does the DCMD-8HE's 1% monitoring port interrupt the main signal path during optical power testing?

No. The 1% monitoring port taps a small fraction of the combined line signal, at 23 dB insertion loss, so a power meter or monitoring device can check optical power on the line without interrupting the main signal path to the connected channels.
