Qlogic compatible SFP10-SR-SP Description
SFP10-SR-SP is a QLogic 10GBASE-SR SFP+ for the QLogic Converged Network Adapter (CNA) family: QLE3240, QLE3242, and the 8300 series. CNAs carry both 10GbE and FCoE traffic over the same physical port, so this optic covers Ethernet plus Fibre Channel over Ethernet on the same fiber. The -SP suffix typically marks the single-unit retail pack variant; the optical platform matches the base SFP10-SR reference. For bulk QLogic CNA refresh work, the -SP PN is the one most commonly sourced through QLogic channel inventory.
QLogic was acquired by Cavium in 2016 and then by Marvell in 2018. SFP10-SR-SP PNs predate both acquisitions, so branding on the host adapter BIOS and firmware may read QLogic, QLogic by Cavium, or Marvell depending on the driver and management utility installed. EdgeOptic's compatible is programmed with the QLogic-recognized vendor ID block, so CNA firmware brings the port up under the standard 10GbE/FCoE profile without EEPROM rejection, regardless of which post-acquisition driver stack is in use on the host.
Optical build: 850 nm VCSEL transmitter, 850 nm PIN photodiode, 6.1 dB minimum link budget, dual LC. Line rate is 10.3125 Gbps per IEEE 802.3ae Clause 52 for Ethernet framing; FCoE rides inside Ethernet frames at the same line rate. Reach is 300 m over OM3 and 400 m over OM4. SFF-8432 form factor, SFF-8472 DOM for TX power, RX power, bias current, temperature and voltage. Operating range 0 to 70 degrees Celsius. Typical deployment is CNA-to-FCoE-capable fabric switch, where a single fiber pair carries both LAN and SAN traffic into the top-of-rack switch. On the fabric side, the attached switch still performs its own vendor-ID check, so for Nexus, Brocade VDX, or UCS FI targets, the fabric-side optic should carry the matching switch-vendor EEPROM.
For FCoE qualification on specific Fabric OS, UCS FI, or NX-OS firmware revisions, storage vendor co-validation, or bulk CNA refresh projects, contact our sales team with the host adapter inventory list.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does SFP10-SR-SP support FCoE on QLogic 8300 CNAs?
Yes. The optic carries 10GBASE-SR Ethernet framing at 10.3125 Gbps; FCoE is encapsulated inside Ethernet by the CNA and travels on the same line rate. No optical-layer change is needed to enable FCoE on the host side. Fabric-side FCoE licensing on the attached switch (Nexus, Brocade, or similar) is handled independently of the optic.
After the Marvell acquisition, does QLogic SFP10-SR-SP still need QLogic-coded optics?
Yes. CNA firmware for QLE3240, QLE3242, and 8300 adapters reads the SFP+ vendor block and compares against the QLogic-qualified list. EdgeOptic's compatible is programmed to match that list, so the CNA accepts the optic under stock firmware regardless of whether the driver label reads QLogic, Cavium, or Marvell.
