40G CWDM QSFP+ 2km Transceiver Description
Our EDGEOPTIC 40G-QSFP-2 is a multi-vendor compatible 40G CWDM QSFP+ optical transceiver module designed for short-reach 40 Gigabit Ethernet applications over single-mode fiber infrastructure. The 40G-QSFP-2 module utilizes four-channel CWDM technology operating at 1271nm, 1291nm, 1311nm, and 1331nm wavelengths for both transmission and reception, supporting data rates up to 44.8 Gbps across various network protocols and applications. Our 40G CWDM QSFP+ transceiver employs DFB (Distributed Feedback) laser technology for transmission and PIN photodiode receivers, optimized for metropolitan area network connectivity.
The transceiver delivers a 4.5 dB guaranteed optical link budget, which determines the maximum transmission distance capabilities. Over standard single-mode fiber, the module reliably achieves distances up to 2 kilometers, making it ideal for campus interconnects and metropolitan deployments. However, distance is just an indicative parameter calculated for ease of identification – ultimately we calculate distance considering minimum optical budget and average attenuation of optical cabling in the industry.
40G-QSFP-2 compatible CWDM module features hot-pluggable QSFP+ form factor with duplex LC/UPC connectors, significantly simplifying fiber management compared to parallel optics solutions. The electrical interface conforms to INF-8438i and SFF-8436 MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard QSFP+ host systems across multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our 40G CWDM QSFP+ transceiver can be encoded to be compatible and successfully operate in over 80 different brands of networking equipment.
The module incorporates comprehensive DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality providing real-time monitoring of critical operational parameters including per-channel transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage. This diagnostic information is accessible via MSA-compatible EEPROM interface, enabling proactive network management and troubleshooting capabilities. Operating within a standard 0 to 70°C temperature range with single +3.3V power supply, the module maintains consistent performance in controlled telecommunications environments.
Standards compliance encompasses IEEE 802.3ba for 40 Gigabit Ethernet, alongside OTU3/OTU3e2 support at 43.01/44.58 Gbps for Optical Transport Networks and STM-256 compatibility for SDH/SONET applications at 39.81 Gbps. The transceiver achieves broad multi-vendor interoperability through strict adherence to QSFP+ MSA standards, though equipment with vendor-specific module authentication may require custom EEPROM programming for seamless compatibility. Our 40G QSFP-2 transceiver is CE/RoHS certified and compliant with Class 1 FDA and IEC60825-1 laser safety standards.
Typical deployment scenarios include data center interconnects, metropolitan area networks, campus backbone connections, and service provider edge applications. The duplex LC connectivity simplifies installation and maintenance while CWDM technology enables efficient wavelength utilization over existing single-mode fiber infrastructure. Because our focus is providing superior quality service, we perform rigorous quality checks before delivery including optical power validation, connector cleanliness verification, and QSFP+ transceiver EEPROM memory data testing.
