Our EDGEOPTIC 40G-QSFP-40 is a multi-vendor compatible 40GBASE-ER4 QSFP+ optical transceiver module engineered for extended-reach 40 Gigabit Ethernet applications over single-mode fiber infrastructure. The 40G-QSFP-40 module utilizes four-channel CWDM technology operating at 1271nm, 1291nm, 1311nm, and 1331nm wavelengths for both transmission and reception, supporting data rates up to 44.8 Gbps across various network protocols and applications. Our 40GBASE-ER4 QSFP+ transceiver employs DFB (Distributed Feedback) laser technology for transmission and APD (Avalanche Photodiode) receivers, specifically optimized for long-haul metropolitan and regional network connectivity.
The transceiver delivers an exceptional 19 dB guaranteed optical link budget, which determines the maximum transmission distance capabilities. Over standard single-mode fiber, the module reliably achieves distances up to 40 kilometers, providing robust connectivity for metropolitan area networks and inter-city connections. However, distance is just an indicative parameter calculated for convenience of identification – ultimately we calculate distance considering minimum optical budget and average attenuation of optical cabling in the industry.
40G-QSFP-40 compatible 40GBASE-ER4 module features hot-pluggable QSFP+ form factor with duplex LC/UPC connectors, significantly simplifying fiber infrastructure deployment compared to parallel optics solutions. The electrical interface conforms to INF-8438i and SFF-8436 MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specifications, ensuring seamless compatibility with standard QSFP+ host systems across multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our 40GBASE-ER4 QSFP+ transceiver can be encoded to be compatible and successfully operate in over 80 different brands of networking equipment.
