OC-3/STM-1 SFP 120km Transceiver: 155M-SFP-120D

Our EDGEOPTIC 155M-SFP-120D is a multi-vendor compatible OC-3/STM-1 SFP dual-fiber optical module designed for SONET/SDH and Fast Ethernet applications operating over single-mode fiber cabling. The 155M-SFP-120D module operates at 1550nm wavelength for transmission and reception, with data rates from 0.1 to 0.155 Gbps and supports multiple protocol standards and applications. Our OC-3/STM-1 SFP transceiver utilizes DFB (Distributed Feedback) laser for transmission and PIN photodiode for receiving. Transceiver ensures a 34 dB guaranteed optical link budget, which determines the maximum transmission distance. Over single-mode fiber, the transceiver can reach distances up to 120 kilometers, providing ultra-long-reach connectivity for telecommunications and carrier network deployments. However, distance is just an indicative parameter calculated for comfort of identification – eventually we calculate distance taking into account minimal optical budget and average attenuation of optical cabling in industry.

155M-SFP-120D compatible OC-3/STM-1 module is hot-pluggable SFP with duplex LC/UPC connectors as an optical interface. The electrical interface conforms to INF-8074i MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard SFP host systems supporting multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our OC-3/STM-1 SFP transceiver can be encoded to be compatible and successfully operate in different 80+ brands of equipment. The module incorporates DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality providing real-time information including transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. This diagnostic data is available via MSA-compatible EEPROM interface and enables monitoring of transceiver operational parameters. The module operates within a 0 to 70°C temperature range, with appropriate thermal considerations for sustained operation in controlled network environments.

Standards compliance includes SDH/SONET support for STM-1 (155Mbps) and OC-3 applications, along with 100BASE-FX Fast Ethernet compatibility. The transceiver achieves multi-vendor interoperability through adherence to industry MSA standards, though equipment with vendor-specific module validation may require custom EEPROM programming for compatibility. Our OC-3/STM-1 SFP transceiver is CE/RoHS certified, and it is compliant with Class 1 FDA and IEC60825-1 laser safety standards.

Typical applications are regional telecommunications networks, ultra-long-haul SONET/SDH rings, carrier backbone services, and submarine cable landing connections. The 120km reach capability at 1550nm wavelength maximizes transmission distance in the C-band optical window where fiber exhibits lowest attenuation. With transmit power ranging from 0 to 5 dBm and receiver sensitivity of -34 dBm, the module delivers exceptional link margins for reliable ultra-long-distance operation. The DFB laser technology ensures precise wavelength control essential for extended-reach applications with chromatic dispersion tolerance up to 2700 ps/nm. The module's wavelength bandwidth of 37nm (1528-1565nm) provides operational flexibility for DWDM integration. Because our focus is providing top quality service, we are performing serious quality checks before delivery of our products. As a result, we do optical parameter measurements, connector cleanness tests and SFP transceiver EEPROM memory data validation tests.
