The EdgeOptic BIDI-1.25G-SFP-21-AD is a 1000BASE-BX BiDi SFP transceiver for Gigabit Ethernet over a single strand of single-mode fiber, halving the fiber count needed for metro and campus links.
This module transmits at 1310nm and receives at 1490nm, running 1.063 to 1.25 Gbps. It is Side A of a matched BiDi pair and must be installed opposite the EdgeOptic BIDI-1.25G-SFP-21-BD Side B unit (1490nm transmit, 1310nm receive); never pair two of the same side. The link carries a 15 dB optical budget, an EdgeOptic extended reach rating of 20 km; verify fiber loss before deployment.

Why do BiDi SFP transceivers have to be deployed in matched pairs?
BiDi modules send both directions of traffic over a single fiber strand using two different wavelengths, one per direction, instead of the two fibers a standard duplex SFP uses. This module transmits at 1310nm and receives at 1490nm. The far end unit must transmit at 1490nm and receive at 1310nm so the wavelengths line up across the link. Pairing two Side A units, or two units of the same side, leaves both ends transmitting on the same wavelength and receiving on the wrong one, so the link will not come up.
What is the difference between 1000BASE-BX10-U and 1000BASE-BX10-D?
The U and D labels describe the transmit and receive wavelengths at each end of a BiDi link. A -U (upstream) unit transmits at 1310nm and receives at 1490nm, which is this module. A -D (downstream) unit transmits at 1490nm and receives at 1310nm, matching the EdgeOptic BIDI-1.25G-SFP-21-BD Side B unit. The two must always be deployed as a pair, one -U and one -D, never two of the same type.
Can a BiDi SFP be plugged into a standard duplex SFP port?
Yes. The SFP host cage and electrical interface follow the standard SFP MSA (INF-8074i), the same interface a duplex SFP uses. The difference is optical, not electrical: a BiDi module has a single LC/UPC connector instead of two fiber ports, and it must be paired with an opposite wavelength BiDi unit at the far end rather than another duplex transceiver.
Which side do I need for my link, Side A or Side B?
