10G Base LR Industrial Transceiver Description
The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10I is an industrial 10GBASE-LR SFP+ built to IEEE 802.3ae Clause 52, reaching 10 km over single-mode fiber through a duplex LC/UPC connector with a 6 dB average link budget. The DFB transmitter runs at 1310 nm across a 1260 to 1360 nm window, paired with a PIN photodiode receiver rated at -14.5 dBm sensitivity and 0 dBm overload. Transmit power spans -8.2 dBm to -0.5 dBm, with 70 to 100 ps/nm dispersion tolerance. The 10 km reach is supported by the 6 dB link budget; actual usable distance depends on the fiber plant and connector quality in each installation.
As an extended-temperature 10G SFP+, the module is hot pluggable per the SFP MSA and SFF-8431, with digital diagnostic monitoring for transmit power, receive power, bias current, supply voltage and module temperature, all accessible through the module's EEPROM interface. Operating temperature is rated -45°C to +85°C for industrial deployment, suited to outdoor cabinets, uncontrolled equipment enclosures and other locations with wide thermal swings. Deployments that do not need the extended range can use the standard-temperature 10G-SFP-10, which covers the same 10 km, 6 dB, 1310 nm optical specification at a standard commercial temperature range.
Supported data rates run 1.25 to 11.32 Gbps, covering 10 Gigabit Ethernet at 10.31 Gbps, Gigabit Ethernet at 1.25 Gbps, Fibre Channel at 1G, 2G, 4G, 8G and 10G, and STM-64 SDH/SONET at 9.95 Gbps, all on a single 3.3V supply. The transceiver reaches multi-vendor interoperability through the SFP MSA and SFF-8431 electrical interface, though host platforms that enforce vendor-specific module validation may require optics coded to that vendor; verify against the target platform's transceiver support matrix. Compliance covers CE, RoHS, Class 1 laser safety per FDA and IEC 60825-1, SFF-8431 and the SFP MSA.
The industrial temperature rating and multi-rate scope suit deployments such as intelligent transportation systems, railway communications, outdoor surveillance networks, utility and smart grid infrastructure, industrial automation, and mining operations that need temperature-hardened optical connectivity. The multi-rate capability accommodates legacy Gigabit Ethernet operation at 1.25 Gbps alongside native 10 Gigabit rates, Fibre Channel, and STM-64 SDH/SONET, provided the host port supports the target rate. Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms, the 10G-SFP-10I ships next business day from EU stock with a lifetime warranty. Frequently Asked Questions
How does the 10G-SFP-10I's industrial temperature range differ from the standard 10G-SFP-10?
The 10G-SFP-10I is rated for an industrial operating range of -45°C to +85°C, while the 10G-SFP-10 is built for a standard commercial temperature range. Both modules share the same optical specification: 10 km reach, a 6 dB link budget, 1310 nm DFB/PIN optics, and SFF-8431 SFP+ MSA compliance. Choose the 10G-SFP-10I for cabinets, outdoor enclosures or other locations with wide thermal swings, and the 10G-SFP-10 for typical indoor, climate-controlled deployments.
Can an industrial-temperature SFP+ be mixed with a commercial-temperature SFP+ on the same fiber link?
Yes. Temperature rating describes each individual module's own operating environment, not the optical link between two ends. As long as both transceivers conform to the same 10GBASE-LR optical specification and SFF-8431 SFP+ MSA, an industrial-temperature module on one end and a commercial-temperature module on the other will interoperate normally over the fiber. Verify that each module's own temperature rating matches the conditions at its installed location.
