400GBASE-ER4 Lite QSFP-DD Compatible Transceiver Description
Our EDGEOPTIC 400G-QSFP-DD-41 is a multi-vendor compatible 400GBASE-ER4 Lite QSFP-DD optical transceiver module designed for extended-reach 400 Gigabit Ethernet applications over single-mode fiber infrastructure. The 400G-QSFP-DD-41 module employs 4-channel LAN-WDM technology operating at narrow wavelength spacing (1304.58, 1306.85, 1309.14, and 1311.43 nm), with each lane transmitting at 106.25 Gbps using PAM4 modulation to achieve an aggregate data rate of 425 Gbps. This dense wavelength arrangement enables efficient long-haul transmission over duplex fiber for metropolitan and campus network deployments.
Our 400GBASE-ER4 Lite QSFP-DD transceiver utilizes EML (Electro-absorption Modulated Laser) transmitters for each wavelength channel, providing high output power and precise spectral characteristics required for extended-distance transmission. The receiver section incorporates APD (Avalanche Photodiode) detectors optimized for the LAN-WDM wavelength grid, delivering enhanced sensitivity for reliable reception over longer fiber spans. The module ensures a 12.5 dB guaranteed optical link budget, supporting transmission distances up to 30 kilometers over standard single-mode fiber. However, distance is an indicative parameter calculated for identification purposes – ultimately we calculate reach taking into account minimal optical budget and average attenuation characteristics of the deployed fiber plant.
The 400G-QSFP-DD-41 compatible 400GBASE-ER4 Lite module is a hot-pluggable QSFP-DD form factor transceiver with duplex LC/UPC connectors as the optical interface. The electrical interface conforms to QSFP-DD MSA and IEEE 802.3bs specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard QSFP-DD host systems across multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our 400GBASE-ER4 Lite QSFP-DD transceiver can be encoded for compatibility with latest platforms from leading vendors including Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Nokia, Huawei, and other major network equipment manufacturers. The module features built-in Forward Error Correction integrated within the transceiver DSP, eliminating dependency on host-side FEC implementation, and incorporates CDR (Clock and Data Recovery) functionality on all electrical lanes.
The transceiver includes DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) capability providing real-time operational parameters including transmitted and received optical power levels per wavelength channel, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. This diagnostic data is accessible via the MSA-compatible management interface, enabling comprehensive monitoring of transceiver health and performance. The module operates within a 0 to 70°C commercial temperature range with maximum power consumption of 12W, requiring appropriate thermal management in deployment scenarios.
Standards compliance includes IEEE 802.3bs for 400 Gigabit Ethernet and 100G Lambda MSA specifications for the optical interface. The transceiver achieves multi-vendor interoperability through adherence to industry QSFP-DD MSA standards, though equipment with vendor-specific module authentication may require custom EEPROM programming for full compatibility. Our 400GBASE-ER4 Lite QSFP-DD transceiver is CE/RoHS certified and compliant with Class 1 FDA and IEC60825-1 laser safety standards.
Typical applications include metropolitan area network interconnects, campus backbone links, inter-data center connections, and enterprise WAN deployments requiring high-bandwidth connectivity over intermediate-to-extended distances. The ER4 Lite designation indicates optimized reach for 30km applications while maintaining the compact QSFP-DD form factor. Because our focus is providing top quality service, we perform comprehensive quality verification before delivery including optical parameter measurements across all wavelength channels, connector cleanliness inspection, and QSFP-DD transceiver EEPROM memory validation tests.
