800GBASE-SR8 QSFP-DD Optical Module Description

Our EDGEOPTIC 800G-QSFP-DD-100 is a multi-vendor compatible 800GBASE-SR8 QSFP-DD optical module designed for next-generation 800 Gigabit Ethernet applications operating over multimode fiber cabling. This transceiver utilizes the QSFP-DD form factor, delivering 850 Gbps aggregate throughput through an SR8 configuration with eight parallel 106.25 Gbps lanes using PAM4 (Pulse Amplitude Modulation 4-level) signaling technology. The MPO-16/APC connector design provides a streamlined single-connector solution for high-density data center deployments.

The 800G-QSFP-DD-100 operates at 850nm wavelength for both transmission and reception, utilizing VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) technology for transmission and PIN photodiode for signal reception. This optical configuration ensures a guaranteed 1.8 dB link budget, enabling reliable transmission over OM4/OM5 multimode fiber. With Host FEC (Forward Error Correction) support, the module achieves maximum transmission distances up to 100 meters over high-bandwidth multimode fiber infrastructure, optimized for short-reach data center interconnects.

This 800G QSFP-DD transceiver is hot-pluggable with an MTP/MPO-16 APC connector serving as the optical interface, supporting all sixteen fiber lanes through a single connection point. The electrical interface conforms to QSFP-DD MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard host systems from multiple equipment vendors. The closed top design provides a compact form factor while maintaining adequate thermal performance. CDR (Clock and Data Recovery) functionality ensures signal integrity optimization across all eight optical lanes.

The module incorporates DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality, providing real-time operational parameters including transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage monitoring. This diagnostic data is accessible via CMIS v5.2 compliant management interface, enabling comprehensive transceiver health monitoring. The transceiver operates within a commercial 0°C to 70°C temperature range with storage temperature rated from -40°C to 85°C.

Standards compliance includes IEEE 802.3 specifications for 800 Gigabit Ethernet and QSFP-DD MSA requirements. The optical parameters meet industry specifications with average launch power ranging from -4.6 dBm to 4 dBm per lane, extinction ratio minimum of 2.5 dB, and receiver sensitivity from -6.4 dBm to 4 dBm with 5 dBm receiver overload protection. Power consumption is optimized at 14W maximum operating from a single +3.3V power supply.

Typical applications include hyperscale data center interconnects, AI/ML cluster connectivity, high-performance computing environments, and top-of-rack switch uplinks requiring 800G capacity. The SR8 configuration simplifies cabling infrastructure with a single MPO-16 connector for all lanes. Our 800G-QSFP-DD-100 is CE and RoHS certified, meeting product safety and environmental compliance standards. Every module undergoes comprehensive testing including optical parameter verification, connector inspection, and EEPROM data validation before delivery.
