40G QSFP+ to 4×10G SFP+ Passive DAC Breakout Cable Description
Our EDGEOPTIC 40G-PDAC-QSFP-SFP is a multi-vendor compatible 40G QSFP+ to 4×SFP+ passive direct attach copper breakout cable designed for flexible network connectivity in data center environments. The 40G-PDAC-QSFP-SFP cable features a breakout configuration with one QSFP+ connector splitting into four independent SFP+ connectors, enabling efficient port utilization by connecting a single 40G switch port to four separate 10G devices such as servers, storage systems, or lower-tier switches.
The cable supports multi-rate operation from 2.125 to 41.2 Gbps across all four channels, accommodating various network protocols and applications. For Ethernet deployments, the cable handles both 10G Ethernet at 10.31 Gbps per channel and aggregated 40G Ethernet at 41.25 Gbps total throughput. Fiber Channel support includes 2G FC at 2.125 Gbps, 4G FC at 4.25 Gbps, 8G FC at 8.5 Gbps, and 10G FC at 10.52 Gbps per lane, making the cable suitable for SAN connectivity scenarios. Additionally, the cable supports InfiniBand applications including SDR at 10 Gbps, DDR at 20 Gbps, and QDR at 40 Gbps for high-performance computing environments.
As a passive DAC solution, the 40G-PDAC-QSFP-SFP requires no external power and introduces zero latency to signal transmission, making it ideal for latency-sensitive applications. The cable construction utilizes high-quality twinax copper with AWG30 gauge for lengths from 0.5 to 3 meters and AWG26 gauge for lengths from 4 to 7 meters. This wire gauge optimization ensures optimal signal integrity across the full distance range while maintaining cable flexibility for practical installation in dense rack environments.
The breakout configuration is particularly valuable for network migration scenarios, allowing gradual transition from 10G to 40G infrastructure while maximizing existing equipment investments. It also enables efficient use of expensive 40G switch ports by connecting multiple lower-bandwidth devices through a single high-density port.
The electrical interface conforms to QSFP+ MSA, SFP+ MSA, SFF-8431, and SFF-8436 specifications, ensuring broad compatibility with standard host systems from multiple equipment vendors. Our breakout DAC cables can be encoded for compatibility with over 80 different equipment brands. The cable incorporates DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality, providing real-time diagnostic data through the MSA-compatible interface.
Standards compliance includes IEEE 802.3ba for 40 Gigabit Ethernet alongside QDR InfiniBand specifications. The cable operates within a 0 to 70°C temperature range with an MTBF rating of 1,000,000 hours, delivering long-term reliability for mission-critical infrastructure.
Our 40G QSFP+ to 4×SFP+ passive breakout DAC is CE/RoHS certified and compliant with product safety standards. Because our focus is providing top quality service, we perform comprehensive quality checks before delivery including electrical parameter measurements, connector inspection tests, and EEPROM memory data validation tests.
