Our EDGEOPTIC BIDI-10GFH-SFP-40A is a multi-vendor compatible 10G Fronthaul BiDi SFP+ single-fiber optical module designed for mobile network infrastructure supporting CPRI and OBSAI protocol standards over extended distances. The BIDI-10GFH-SFP-40A module operates using wavelength division multiplexing technology, transmitting at 1270nm and receiving at 1330nm over a single fiber strand. With data rates from 1.228 to 10.138 Gbps, this transceiver provides fiber-efficient long-reach connectivity between baseband units and remote radio heads in 4G LTE and 5G network deployments where fiber pair availability is limited.

Our 10G Fronthaul BiDi 40km SFP+ transceiver utilizes DFB (Distributed Feedback) laser technology for transmission and PIN photodiode for receiving. The module ensures a 14 dB guaranteed optical link budget, which determines the maximum transmission distance. Over single-mode fiber, the transceiver can reach distances up to 40 kilometers while using only one fiber strand instead of the traditional two-fiber approach. However, distance is just an indicative parameter calculated for comfort of identification – eventually we calculate distance taking into account minimal optical budget and average attenuation of optical cabling in industry.

The BIDI-10GFH-SFP-40A must be deployed in pairs with its complementary module BIDI-10GFH-SFP-40B at the opposite end of the link. The Side A module transmits at 1270nm and receives at 1330nm, while Side B transmits at 1330nm and receives at 1270nm, enabling full-duplex communication over a single fiber. This configuration effectively doubles fiber utilization in fronthaul networks spanning regional distances.

The BIDI-10GFH-SFP-40A supports comprehensive fronthaul protocol coverage including CPRI options 2 through 8, ranging from 1228.8 Mbps to 10.138 Gbps. Additionally, the module supports OBSAI RP3 configurations at 1.536 Gbps, 3.072 Gbps, and 6.144 Gbps rates. This multi-rate capability ensures compatibility with diverse radio access network architectures and equipment generations from major RAN vendors worldwide.

The BIDI-10GFH-SFP-40A compatible 10G Fronthaul BiDi module is a hot-pluggable SFP+ with a single LC/UPC connector as an optical interface. The electrical interface conforms to SFF-8431 MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard SFP+ host systems supporting multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our 10G Fronthaul BiDi 40km SFP+ transceiver can be encoded to be compatible and successfully operate in different baseband unit and remote radio head platforms across the telecommunications industry.

The module incorporates DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality providing real-time information including transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. This diagnostic data is available via MSA-compatible EEPROM interface and enables monitoring of transceiver operational parameters critical for extended-distance link management. The module operates within a 0 to 70°C temperature range, with appropriate thermal considerations for sustained operation in controlled equipment room environments.
