Our EDGEOPTIC BIDI-10GFH-SFP-40B is a multi-vendor compatible 10G Fronthaul BiDi SFP+ single-fiber optical module designed for mobile network infrastructure supporting CPRI and OBSAI protocol standards over extended distances. The BIDI-10GFH-SFP-40B module operates using wavelength division multiplexing technology, transmitting at 1330nm and receiving at 1270nm over a single fiber strand. With data rates from 1.228 to 10.138 Gbps, this transceiver provides fiber-efficient long-reach connectivity between baseband units and remote radio heads in 4G LTE and 5G network deployments where fiber pair availability is limited.

Our 10G Fronthaul BiDi 40km SFP+ transceiver utilizes DFB (Distributed Feedback) laser technology for transmission and PIN photodiode for receiving. The module ensures a 14 dB guaranteed optical link budget, which determines the maximum transmission distance. Over single-mode fiber, the transceiver can reach distances up to 40 kilometers while using only one fiber strand instead of the traditional two-fiber approach. However, distance is just an indicative parameter calculated for comfort of identification – eventually we calculate distance taking into account minimal optical budget and average attenuation of optical cabling in industry.

The BIDI-10GFH-SFP-40B must be deployed in pairs with its complementary module BIDI-10GFH-SFP-40A at the opposite end of the link. The Side B module transmits at 1330nm and receives at 1270nm, while Side A transmits at 1270nm and receives at 1330nm, enabling full-duplex communication over a single fiber. This configuration effectively doubles fiber utilization in fronthaul networks spanning regional distances.

The BIDI-10GFH-SFP-40B supports comprehensive fronthaul protocol coverage including CPRI options 2 through 8, ranging from 1228.8 Mbps to 10.138 Gbps. Additionally, the module supports OBSAI RP3 configurations at 1.536 Gbps, 3.072 Gbps, and 6.144 Gbps rates. The BIDI-10GFH-SFP-40B compatible 10G Fronthaul BiDi module is a hot-pluggable SFP+ with a single LC/UPC connector as an optical interface. The electrical interface conforms to SFF-8431 MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard SFP+ host systems supporting multiple vendor equipment platforms.
