10G BiDi SFP+ 10km Transceiver (Tx1330Rx1270): BIDI-10G-SFP-10B

The EdgeOptic BIDI-10G-SFP-10B is a 10G BiDi SFP+ transceiver built for 10 Gigabit Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet links over single-mode fiber, using bidirectional transmission on a single strand. It transmits at 1330nm and receives at 1270nm, the lower-wavelength side of the wavelength pair known by the vendor-naming convention as the BX10-D side, per Cisco's SFP-10G-BX10-D/U datasheet. The module supports data rates from 1.25 to 11.32 Gbps, covering 10G Ethernet (10.31 Gbps), Gigabit Ethernet (1.25 Gbps), 1G, 2G, 4G, 8G and 10G Fibre Channel, and STM-64 SDH/SONET (9.95 Gbps). A DFB laser transmitter and PIN photodiode receiver, combined with a WDM filter on the shared fiber strand, operate within a minimum TX power of −7.8 dBm, a maximum TX power of 1 dBm, and an RX sensitivity of −14 dBm, for a 6.2 dB optical link budget that supports link distances up to 10 kilometers over single-mode fiber.

The BIDI-10G-SFP-10B is a hot-pluggable SFP+ module with a simplex LC/UPC connector, using one fiber strand for both transmit and receive. Its electrical interface follows the SFF-8431 SFP+ MSA, and the module reports DDM/DOM diagnostics, including TX and RX optical power, temperature, bias current, and supply voltage, through the MSA EEPROM interface. It runs on a single +3.3V supply across a standard 0 to 70C operating range. The module's 10G Ethernet signaling matches the 10.31 Gbps rate class defined for 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Single-fiber bidirectional transmission at 10G follows the vendor-naming convention exemplified by Cisco's SFP-10G-BX10-D/U pair. The IEEE-standardized equivalent for single-fiber bidirectional links at this rate is the 10GBASE-BR10 PMD defined in IEEE 802.3cp-2021. The module is CE and RoHS compliant and meets Class 1 laser safety requirements under FDA and IEC 60825-1.

BiDi transceivers must be deployed in matched pairs with complementary wavelengths. This module transmits at 1330nm and receives at 1270nm. It must be paired with the EdgeOptic BIDI-10G-SFP-10A, which transmits at 1270nm and receives at 1330nm, with one module installed at each end of the fiber strand.

Typical applications include metropolitan access links, point-to-point connections on fiber-constrained routes, campus backbone links, and fiber-to-the-business deployments where strand availability is limited. Because BiDi transmission carries both directions on a single fiber strand instead of the two strands a standard duplex 10G SFP+ link requires, it cuts the fiber strand count per link in half. The supported rate range also covers legacy Gigabit Ethernet at 1.25 Gbps alongside native 10G Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and STM-64 SDH/SONET signaling on the same hardware.
