1-Channel Double Fiber CWDM OADM Overview
DCAD-1 is a passive two-sided (East and West) Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (OADM) for double-fiber CWDM links, adding and dropping a single wavelength on both fiber directions of the link. Unlike a one-sided line termination unit, which only extracts a channel without adding it back, DCAD-1 performs both add and drop functions on both fibers. The unit configures by housing (mini-LGX or LGX), CWDM channel (any ITU-T G.694.2 wavelength from 1271nm to 1611nm), and an optional 1310nm monitor port, with LC/UPC connectors throughout. Each configuration resolves to its own orderable SKU.

1 Channel Double Fiber Passive CWDM 2-sided OADM Unit Description
DCAD-1 is a member of the EDGE Optics xWDM Series product line: a 1 Channel Double Fiber Passive CWDM 2-sided OADM Unit for double-fiber CWDM links, where each transmission direction runs on its own fiber.
DCAD-1 is a passive two-sided (East and West) Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (OADM) built on Thin-Film Filter (TFF) technology, adding and dropping one selected CWDM wavelength on both fiber directions of an ITU-T G.694.2 compatible link. A one-sided line termination unit only extracts a channel without adding it back; DCAD-1 adds and drops on each fiber. Because East and West run on separate fibers, the same wavelength can be reused in both directions, unlike a single-fiber add-drop unit, which needs two different wavelengths on one bidirectional fiber.
Passband insertion loss is 1dB with 0.3dB ripple, isolation runs 30dB from adjacent channels and 40dB from non-adjacent channels, and return loss is 45dB. Connectors are LC/UPC throughout.
Each unit is built to order across three options: housing (mini-LGX or LGX), CWDM wavelength (any single ITU-T G.694.2 channel from 1271nm to 1611nm, 20nm spacing, 18 channels), and an optional 1310nm window (the Window Port option), a low-percentage optical tap available on 13 of the 18 wavelengths. Availability varies by wavelength; check the selected channel against the DCAD-1 configuration matrix before ordering. No expansion (EXP) port is offered on this SKU.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between DCAD-1 and DCLT-1?
DCLT-1 is a one-sided double-fiber line termination unit: it extracts a single CWDM wavelength from one side of the link, east or west, but does not add it back. DCAD-1 is two-sided: it adds and drops the same selected wavelength on both fiber directions of the link. An application needing to insert traffic back onto the line at that wavelength in both directions requires DCAD-1; a line termination unit does not perform that function.
How does DCAD-1 differ from SCAD-1 for wavelength planning?
SCAD-1 performs the same two-sided add and drop function, but on a single bidirectional fiber, which requires two different CWDM wavelengths, one per direction, to avoid signal collision on that fiber. DCAD-1 uses two separate fibers, one per direction, so the same wavelength channel can serve both the add and drop function in both directions. Channel assignment planning differs depending on whether the link runs double fiber or single fiber CWDM.
Is the 1310nm monitor port available on every DCAD-1 wavelength?
No. The 1310nm monitor port option is available on 13 of the 18 CWDM wavelengths offered on DCAD-1. It is not available on the 1271nm, 1291nm, 1311nm, 1331nm and 1351nm channels. Monitor port availability for the selected wavelength should be confirmed against the DCAD-1 configuration matrix before ordering.
