DCAD-2: Configurable 2-Channel Double Fiber CWDM OADM
DCAD-2 is EDGE's configurable 2-channel double fiber passive CWDM OADM (optical add/drop multiplexer) unit, built to ITU-T G.694.2 with 20 nm channel spacing. It adds and drops one CWDM channel pair (2 wavelengths) on both the East and West line directions from a single unit, using separate East and West fibers and TFF (thin film filter) technology, and needs no electrical power or active cooling. DCAD-2 ships as a configurable build. Buyers select one of nine CWDM wavelength pairs on the ITU-T G.694.2 grid (1271nm/1291nm through 1591nm/1611nm) and one of two housings (mini-LGX or LGX), and can add an optional 1310nm monitor port. As a passive device, DCAD-2 adds no signal processing and is transparent to the protocol carried on each stream, so it fits standard CWDM add/drop deployments regardless of the protocol used.

2 Channel Double Fiber Passive CWDM 2-sided OADM Unit Description
DCAD-2 is EDGE's configurable 2-channel double fiber passive CWDM OADM (optical add/drop multiplexer) unit with LC/UPC connectors, built to the ITU-T G.694.2 CWDM grid. It is 2-sided: it adds and drops the same CWDM channel pair on both the East and West line directions from a single unit.
Channel spacing is 20 nm, with a passband of plus or minus 6.5 nm around the center wavelength. Buyers select one of nine CWDM wavelength pairs on the ITU-T G.694.2 grid, from 1271nm/1291nm through 1591nm/1611nm, using TFF (thin film filter) technology.
Without the 1310nm window: passband IL 1.2 dB. With the 1310nm window enabled (the Window Port option): passband IL 1.5 dB (the window itself taps 1.0 dB). Isolation is 30 dB on adjacent channels and 40 dB on non-adjacent channels, with polarization dependent loss of 0.2 dB and polarization mode dispersion of 0.1 ps.
DCAD-2 is passive: no electrical power and no active cooling required. Operating temperature is -5 to 70 C at 5 to 95 percent humidity; storage temperature is minus 40 to 85 C. MTBF is 1,000,000 hours. Compliance covers CE, ISO, ITU-T G.694.2 and RoHS.
DCAD-2 differs from EDGE's DCLT line-termination family, which is 1-sided and adds or drops channels on East or West only. It also differs from EDGE's SCAD family, which is 2-sided but combines both directions on one fiber. DCAD-2 uses separate East and West fibers.
DCAD-2 ships as a configurable build. At order time, buyers choose a CWDM wavelength pair, a housing (mini-LGX or LGX), and whether to add the 1310nm window. For configuration questions or volume orders, contact our sales team.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does DCAD-2 need a matching OADM unit at the far end of the link?
No. DCAD-2 is a 2-sided unit: it adds and drops the same CWDM channel pair on both the East and West line directions from a single unit, so no matching far-end OADM is required. This is different from EDGE's DCLT line-termination family, which is 1-sided and only adds or drops channels on East or West, not both.
What is the difference between DCAD-2 and EDGE's single-fiber SCAD OADM family?
DCAD-2 uses separate East and West fibers, with East and West traffic each carried on its own physical fiber. EDGE's SCAD family is also 2-sided but combines both line directions onto a single fiber. Choose DCAD-2 for double fiber deployments and SCAD for single fiber deployments.
