8 Channels Double Fiber Passive CWDM Mux/Demux Description
The DCMD-8-CFG is a passive 8-channel double fiber CWDM multiplexer/demultiplexer built on CCWDM free-space filter technology. It combines and separates eight CWDM wavelengths on the 20nm ITU-T G.694.2 grid, with each channel routed to its own LC/UPC port pair on the mux and demux sides. As a passive component it draws no power and is protocol and bit-rate transparent to the traffic on each wavelength.
Three wavelength band configurations are available: 1271 to 1411nm, 1391 to 1531nm, and 1471 to 1611nm, each covering 8 channels within a +/-6.5nm passband around each channel center. The correct band depends on which part of the CWDM spectrum the fiber plant already uses, since both ends of a link need matching units on the same band and channel plan. Exact channel center wavelengths are confirmed on the corresponding datasheet.
Housing is configurable as an LGX-compatible cassette or a self-contained 19 inch 1U rack-mount chassis. The LGX cassette slides into an existing LGX-compatible shelf or fiber distribution panel, suiting sites that already standardize on LGX slot-based fiber management. The 19 inch 1U chassis mounts directly into a standard rack without a separate shelf, suiting a dedicated CWDM position built from scratch.
An EXP expansion port is present on every configuration, with 1.5dB insertion loss, and passes the combined CWDM signal to a second mux/demux unit connected downstream so channel capacity can be added later without rewiring the existing unit. Every DCMD-8 unit also includes a fixed 1% monitor port, tapping a small fraction of the line signal at 23dB insertion loss so power can be checked without breaking the traffic path. A separate, optional 1310nm window can be added on top of any band, contributing about 1.2dB of its own insertion loss for a dedicated 1310nm pass-through alongside the CWDM channels.
Passband insertion loss is 1.5dB per channel, with adjacent channel isolation of 30dB and non-adjacent isolation of 40dB. Polarization dependent loss is 0.2dB, polarization mode dispersion is 0.1ps, and return loss is 45dB. The unit operates from -5 to 70 degrees Celsius, handles up to 500mW of optical power, and carries an MTBF of 1,000,000 hours, with CE, ISO, ITU-T G.694.2 and RoHS compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I choose the LGX cassette or the 19-inch 1U rack housing?
Both housings mux and demux the same eight CWDM channels; the difference is how the unit fits into the fiber plant. The LGX cassette slides into an existing LGX-compatible shelf or fiber distribution panel, which suits sites that already standardize on LGX slot-based fiber management and want to add CWDM capacity alongside other LGX modules. The 19 inch 1U chassis is self-contained and mounts directly into a standard rack, which suits sites building a dedicated CWDM shelf position without an existing LGX shelf in place.
What does the EXP expansion port do, and how do I cascade units to add channels later?
The EXP port is present on every DCMD-8-CFG configuration, unlike some passive mux/demux designs where it is an optional extra. It carries 1.5dB of insertion loss and passes the combined CWDM signal through to a second mux/demux unit connected downstream, so channel capacity can be added later without removing or rewiring the first unit. Because the expansion path adds its own insertion loss, the cumulative loss of a cascaded chain should be checked against the link budget for the deployment.
What does the 1310nm monitor port do, and does monitoring interrupt the live traffic path?
The monitor port taps roughly 1% of the line signal at 23dB insertion loss, so optical power can be checked with a power meter without breaking the main traffic path. It is an optional add-on and is not offered on the 1271 to 1411nm band configuration.
Which wavelength band should I order?
The DCMD-8-CFG is available in three band configurations: 1271 to 1411nm, 1391 to 1531nm, and 1471 to 1611nm, each covering 8 channels on the 20nm ITU-T G.694.2 grid. The correct band depends on which section of the CWDM spectrum the rest of the fiber plant already uses, since both ends of a link need matching mux and demux units built to the same band and channel plan. Exact channel center wavelengths for the ordered band are confirmed on the corresponding datasheet.
