DDMD-96-31-2U
96-Channel 50GHz DWDM Mux/Demux Overview
The DDMD-96 is EdgeOptic's highest-density double-fiber passive DWDM mux/demux, multiplexing 96 ITU-T C-band channels (Ch.14 to Ch.61, 50 GHz spacing) onto a single fiber pair in a compact 19-inch 2U chassis. Built on AAWG filter technology with LC/UPC connectors throughout, it targets metro and long-haul networks that need maximum channel density without stacking multiple mux/demux units. An optional 1310nm window port is available for out-of-band optical supervisory signaling.

96 Channels Double Fiber Passive 50 GHz DWDM Mux/Demux Description
The DDMD-96-CFG is a 96 channel passive DWDM multiplexer and demultiplexer unit for dense wavelength division multiplexing networks. It carries 96 data streams across 96 DWDM optical channels on 50 GHz spacing (0.4 nm), Ch.14 to Ch.61 (1566.31 nm to 1528.77 nm). Filtering is DWDM AAWG (Gaussian), and every channel and common port terminates in LC/UPC connectors. The unit ships in a fixed 19 inch, 2U rack mount enclosure, the only housing offered on this SKU.
Insertion loss across the passband is 7 dB, with a channel passband ripple of 1.2 dB. Channel isolation is 27 dB from adjacent channels and 35 dB from non-adjacent channels. Polarization dependent loss is 0.5 dB, polarization mode dispersion is 0.5 ps, and return loss is 45 dB. Maximum optical power handling is 500 mW.
Operating temperature is 0 to 70 C, operating humidity is 5 to 95%, and storage temperature is -40 to 85 C. MTBF is rated at 1,000,000 hours. Compliance covers CE, ISO, ITU-T G.694.1 and RoHS. This SKU does not include an expansion (EXP) port.
The one configurable choice on this unit is the 1310nm Window Port, which adds a 1310nm out-of-band tap for optical monitoring, separate from the unit's built-in 1% monitoring port. The default configuration, DDMD-96-31-2U, includes it; DDMD-96-2U omits it. Order the window port when the deployment needs out of band optical supervisory monitoring, and skip it when it does not.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which ordering configuration should I choose, DDMD-96-31-2U or DDMD-96-2U?
DDMD-96-31-2U is the default ordering configuration and includes the 1310nm Window Port, which adds a 1310nm out of band tap for optical monitoring. DDMD-96-2U is the same 96 channel unit without that port. Choose DDMD-96-31-2U when the deployment needs a dedicated out of band monitoring path, and choose DDMD-96-2U when it does not.
How should I plan the insertion loss budget for a 96 channel DWDM system using this unit?
Insertion loss across the passband on the DDMD-96-CFG is 7 dB. Insertion loss on passive mux/demux units generally increases with channel count, so a 96 channel unit carries a higher loss figure than a lower channel count DWDM unit. Budget the link with this 7 dB figure plus fiber, connector and any additional passive component loss, and check the total against the transmitter power and receiver sensitivity of the optical line system being deployed.
Why does this unit not have an expansion (EXP) port, and how do I scale beyond 96 channels?
The DDMD-96-CFG does not offer an expansion (EXP) port; the 96 channel plan, Ch.14 to Ch.61 at 50 GHz spacing, is the fixed capacity of this unit. To scale beyond 96 channels, contact our sales team about a multi-unit cascading approach for the additional channel plan needed.
What does the 1310nm Window Port do and when should I order it?
The 1310nm Window Port adds a 1310nm out-of-band tap for optical monitoring, separate from this unit's built-in 1% monitoring port. The option ships on the DDMD-96-31-2U configuration and is omitted on DDMD-96-2U. Order it when the deployment needs an out of band path to monitor optical power and signal health without interrupting the live DWDM signal, and skip it when that supervisory path is not required.
