16 Channels Double Fiber Passive 100 GHz DWDM Mux/Demux Description
The DDMD-16 is a passive 16 channel double fiber 100 GHz DWDM multiplexer/demultiplexer using TFF (thin film filter) technology, housed in a fixed 19 inch, 1U rack mount enclosure. It organizes 16 duplex ITU-T G.694.1 compliant DWDM data streams over a pair of single mode fibers. Two choices are set at order time, the C-band channel group and whether to add a window port.
Three channel groups are available. Ch.21 to 36 spans 1560.61 to 1548.52 nm, Ch.37 to 52 spans 1547.72 to 1535.82 nm, and Ch.45 to 60 spans 1541.35 to 1529.55 nm. Match the group to the deployed DWDM transceiver wavelengths. The optional window port adds a 1310nm out of band port for optical monitoring.
Every DDMD-16 includes an EXP expansion port as standard. Plugging it into a companion DDMD-16E unit extends link capacity to 32 channels, so the DDMD-16 runs standalone or as the first stage of a 32 channel build.
As a passive device, the DDMD-16 needs no power supply, cooling, configuration, or maintenance. It is data rate and protocol neutral, working with colored transceivers for 1G/10G Ethernet, SDH/SONET, and 8/4/2/1G Fiber Channel.
Connectors are LC/UPC with 100 GHz (0.8 nm) channel spacing and a passband greater than 0.22 nm. Insertion loss is 3.5 dB or less, isolation is 25 dB adjacent channel and 35 dB non adjacent channel, and return loss is 45 dB. Ripple, PDL and PMD are held to 0.5 dB, 0.1 dB and 0.1 ps. Operating temperature is 0 to 70 C, storage temperature is negative 40 to 85 C, and humidity tolerance is 5 to 95 percent. MTBF is rated at 1,000,000 hours, and the unit is CE and ISO certified, complying with ITU-T G.694.1 and RoHS.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the DDMD-16 be expanded from 16 to 32 channels?
Yes. Every DDMD-16 includes an EXP expansion port as standard. Plugging the DDMD-16 into a companion DDMD-16E unit through the EXP expansion port extends link capacity to 32 channels, so a 16 channel deployment can grow into a 32 channel build without replacing the original unit.
What is the difference between the DDMD-16 and the DDMD-16E?
Both units are 16 channel, 100 GHz passive DWDM multiplexers/demultiplexers, and both can run standalone. The DDMD-16E adds a 1 percent monitoring port, which is a separate feature from the window port option available on this DDMD-16 configuration. The DDMD-16E is also the companion unit that pairs with the DDMD-16 through the EXP expansion port to reach 32 channel capacity.
Which channel group should I choose, Ch.21 to 36, Ch.37 to 52, or Ch.45 to 60?
The three channel groups cover different portions of the ITU-T C-band. Ch.21 to 36 spans 1560.61 to 1548.52 nm, Ch.37 to 52 spans 1547.72 to 1535.82 nm, and Ch.45 to 60 spans 1541.35 to 1529.55 nm. Match the group selected at order time to the wavelengths of the DWDM transceivers deployed on each end of the link, since the group determines which wavelengths the unit passes.
Is the DDMD-16 a DWDM or CWDM device?
The DDMD-16 is a DWDM device, not a CWDM device. Channel spacing is 100 GHz (0.8 nm), and the unit complies with ITU-T G.694.1, the DWDM grid standard. CWDM systems use a different channel plan and are not interchangeable with this product.
