40-Channel 100GHz DWDM Mux/Demux Overview
This 40-channel double-fiber passive 100GHz DWDM multiplexer/demultiplexer covers the ITU-T C-band grid from Channel 21 to Channel 60 (1560.61 to 1529.55 nm) on an AAWG (Gaussian) filter design. This configurable version gives you one build choice: whether to add a 1310nm window port to the chassis. The enclosure and the C21-C60 wavelength range stay the same across every unit in this product line, the window port is the only build choice. Connectors are LC/UPC throughout and the unit mounts in a standard 19-inch, 1U rack space, with no power connection required.

40 Channels Double Fiber Passive 100 GHz DWDM Mux/Demux Description
This 40-channel double-fiber passive 100GHz DWDM multiplexer/demultiplexer covers the ITU-T C-band grid from Channel 21 to Channel 60, 1560.61 to 1529.55 nm, on the standard 100 GHz, 0.8 nm DWDM grid. Channel filtering uses an AAWG design with a Gaussian passband shape, a passband width greater than 0.22 nm, a passband insertion loss of 3.7 dB, adjacent-channel isolation of 27 dB and non-adjacent isolation of 35 dB across all 40 channels.
Every unit includes a built-in 1% monitoring port for passive power-tap access, rated at 23 dB insertion loss on that tap. This configurable version adds one build choice on top of that: an optional 1310nm window port. When selected, it passes the 1310nm wavelength through the chassis alongside the DWDM channels as a wide-passband auxiliary port for out-of-band test and monitoring access, without disturbing channel performance. The enclosure and wavelength range stay the same on every unit, the window port is the only build choice.
Return loss is rated at 45 dB, polarization dependent loss at 0.5 dB and polarization mode dispersion at 0.5 ps, with passband ripple held to 1.2 dB. The unit handles up to 500 mW of optical input power and operates from 0 to 70°C, storing from −40 to 85°C. As a fully passive component with no power connection required, it carries a rated MTBF of 1,000,000 hours. Connectors are LC/UPC throughout, in a standard 19-inch, 1U rack space. Compliance covers CE, ISO, ITU-T G.694.1 and RoHS.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the 1310nm window port affect DWDM channel performance?
No. The 1310nm window port is a wide-passband auxiliary port that passes the 1310nm wavelength through the chassis alongside the DWDM channels without disturbing them, giving an out-of-band point for test and monitoring equipment that is separate from the 1% monitoring tap built into every unit. Confirm the insertion loss figure for the 1310nm port against the ordered configuration before using it in a link budget calculation, since this figure varies by build.
Which channels does a 40-channel 100GHz DWDM mux/demux cover?
This unit covers the full ITU-T C-band 100 GHz grid from Channel 21 to Channel 60, spanning 1560.61 nm down to 1529.55 nm in 100 GHz (0.8 nm) steps, all 40 channels on a single chassis.
Why does this 40-channel unit use AAWG filters instead of TFF?
AWG (arrayed waveguide grating) filter loss is largely independent of channel count, which is why higher-channel-count units such as 32-channel and 40-channel mux/demux modules commonly use AWG or AAWG filter technology. TFF (thin film filter) technology is more common on lower-channel-count units, where its per-channel loss penalty matters less. This 40-channel unit uses a Gaussian AAWG filter design.
