8-Channel Double Fiber 100 GHz DWDM Mux/Demux Description
The DDMD-8-CFG is an 8-channel, 100 GHz, passive DWDM multiplexer/demultiplexer for double fiber (duplex) deployment, with all 8 channels on one fiber pair, unlike the single-fiber BiDi SDMD-8A-CFG/SDMD-8B-CFG family, which deploys as a matched A/B pair on a single fiber. It covers 8 of the 40 selectable 100 GHz ITU-T G.694.1 C-band channels from Ch.21 to Ch.60 (1529.55 to 1560.61 nm), sold as one of 5 fixed 8-channel bands: Ch.21-28, Ch.29-36, Ch.37-44, Ch.45-52 and Ch.53-60.
Filtering uses thin film filter (TFF) technology, passband above 0.22 nm, 100 GHz (0.8 nm) channel spacing. Insertion loss is 3 dB through the passband and 2.5 dB through the EXP expansion path. Adjacent channel isolation is 25 dB, non-adjacent isolation is 35 dB, passband ripple is 0.5 dB. Return loss is 45 dB, polarization dependent loss is 0.1 dB, polarization mode dispersion is 0.1 ps, maximum power handling is 500 mW. Connectors are LC/UPC.
Housing is customer selected between LGX and 19 inch 1U at order time. A 1% monitoring port is present on every configuration, tapping 1% of the composite DWDM signal with 23 dB insertion loss on that monitor path. Separately, the configurator offers an optional 1310 nm window port; selecting it adds a 1310 nm out-of-band monitoring window at approximately 1.2 dB of additional insertion loss versus leaving it unselected. An EXP expansion port for cascading additional channel-band units onto the same fiber pair is included on every configuration, not an optional add-on.
Operating temperature is 0 to 70°C at 5 to 95% humidity, storage range is -40 to 85°C, MTBF is 1,000,000 hours. The unit is CE, ISO and RoHS compliant, built to ITU-T G.694.1. For help matching band, housing and window port to a deployment, contact our sales team.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the DDMD-8-CFG double fiber mux/demux and the SDMD-8A-CFG/SDMD-8B-CFG single fiber BiDi pair?
The DDMD-8-CFG is a double fiber (duplex) unit: all 8 multiplexed channels ride one fiber pair, one fiber per direction. The SDMD-8A-CFG and SDMD-8B-CFG are single-fiber BiDi units that only work as a matched A/B pair on one strand.
The two architectures are not interchangeable. Confirm which fiber topology, double fiber duplex or single-fiber BiDi, matches the deployment before ordering.
Which DWDM channel band should I choose for the DDMD-8-CFG?
The DDMD-8-CFG is sold in one of 5 fixed 8-channel bands across the ITU-T G.694.1 100 GHz C-band grid: Ch.21-28, Ch.29-36, Ch.37-44, Ch.45-52 and Ch.53-60. Each band uses TFF (thin film filter) optics fixed to that channel set at manufacturing time; it is not field-tunable across bands after the unit ships.
Select the band that matches the wavelengths already assigned on the DWDM system at the far end, and pair it with a matching DDMD-8-CFG (or compatible 8-channel double fiber unit) on the same band at both ends of the link.
Do I need the optional 1310 nm window port on the DDMD-8-CFG?
The 1310 nm window port is a separate configurator option from the DDMD-8-CFG's always-present monitoring port, which taps the composite DWDM signal on every configuration. Selecting the 1310 nm option adds a 1310 nm out-of-band monitoring window and increases insertion loss by approximately 1.2 dB versus not selecting it. Skip the option unless downstream monitoring equipment specifically requires that out-of-band window.
Is the EXP expansion port included on every DDMD-8-CFG configuration, or is it a customer option?
The EXP port is included on every DDMD-8-CFG configuration; it is not a customer option.
It allows additional channel-band mux/demux units to be cascaded onto the same fiber pair, which is how a network can grow beyond one 8-channel band without replacing the existing unit. Insertion loss through the EXP expansion path is 2.5 dB.
