2-Channel Single Fiber DWDM Line Termination Overview

The SDLT-2 is a configurable single-fiber passive BiDi DWDM line termination unit, built as a one-sided OADM that drops selected channels at this location without adding them back toward the far end. It spans 2 data streams and 4 optical channels on 100 GHz spacing across the ITU-T C-band. Buyers select a mini-LGX or LGX housing, one of 10 DWDM channel-pair groups covering Ch.21 to Ch.60, and an optional built-in 1310 nm monitor port for OTDR access without disrupting live traffic.

2 Channels Single Fiber Passive DWDM Line Termination Unit Description

The SDLT-2 is a passive, single-fiber BiDi DWDM line termination unit built as a one-sided OADM (optical add/drop multiplexer). It drops selected DWDM channels at its location without adding them back toward the far end, functioning as a line termination point rather than a two-sided add/drop node. Each unit covers 2 data streams and 4 optical channels on a single fiber, using thin film filter (TFF) technology with LC/UPC connectors.

Channel spacing follows the 100 GHz (0.8 nm) ITU-T grid, with a passband greater than 0.22 nm and isolation of 25 dB from adjacent channels and 35 dB from non-adjacent channels. Passband insertion loss depends on configuration: up to 1.8 dB (1.5 dB express) without the monitor port, and up to 2.1 dB (1.8 dB express) with it added. Additional figures are 0.5 dB passband ripple, 0.1 dB polarization dependent loss, 0.1 ps polarization mode dispersion and 45 dB return loss. Fully passive, the SDLT-2 needs no power or cooling once installed, handles up to 500 mW of optical input, and carries an MTBF of 1,000,000 hours across 0 to 70C operating, -40 to 85C storage and 5 to 95% humidity, and complies with CE, ISO, ITU-T G.694.1 and RoHS.

The SDLT-2 ships as a configurable product. Housing is available in mini-LGX or standard LGX format to match the target rack or shelf hardware, a mechanical fit choice. The DWDM channel-pair group is selected from 10 options spanning the ITU-T C-band, Ch.21 to Ch.60 (1560.61 to 1529.55 nm), each covering 2 channel pairs across 4 wavelengths at 100 GHz spacing, chosen to match the wavelength plan already running on the fiber. An optional built-in 1310 nm monitor port taps the express path for OTDR or test-set access without interrupting live traffic. This family has no expansion port option.

Because the channel-pair group, housing and monitor port are configured to order, contact our sales team to confirm the combination for an existing DWDM channel plan or a new single-fiber BiDi deployment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose the SDLT-2 line termination unit or a two-sided add/drop OADM for this location?

Choose the SDLT-2 when the dropped channels end at this location and do not need to continue further down the same fiber. It drops selected DWDM channels here without adding them back onto the fiber toward the far end. A two-sided add/drop unit is the right choice when channels need to be re-inserted for continued transport past this point.

Does the SDLT-2 require power or configuration once installed?

No. The SDLT-2 is a fully passive TFF filter with no power or cooling requirement, and it carries an MTBF of 1,000,000 hours. The only configuration happens at order time, when the housing, channel-pair group and monitor port option are selected.

What channel and housing options are available on the SDLT-2?

The SDLT-2 is available in mini-LGX or standard LGX housing and in one of 10 DWDM channel-pair groups spanning ITU-T C-band Ch.21 to Ch.60 (1560.61 to 1529.55 nm), each group covering 2 channel pairs across 4 wavelengths at 100 GHz spacing.

When would I use the optional 1310 nm monitor port?

The built-in 1310 nm monitor port taps the express path so an OTDR or test set can check the fiber without interrupting the live DWDM channels passing through the unit. Add it when the deployment needs in-service fiber monitoring or troubleshooting access at this location.

Can the SDLT-2 be used with any 100 GHz DWDM transceiver on the selected channel?

The SDLT-2 is protocol and rate neutral at the optical layer. It works with any ITU-T G.694.1 compliant colored DWDM optic tuned to the selected channel; verify the transceiver's wavelength assignment matches the ordered channel-pair group before deployment.
