1 Channel Single Fiber Passive DWDM Line Termination Unit Description
The 1 Channel Single Fiber Passive DWDM Line Termination Unit (SDLT-1) is EDGE's one-sided DWDM OADM. It adds or drops a single 100 GHz DWDM channel pair where installed and does not pass that channel toward the far end of the link, unlike a two-sided add/drop unit. The unit is configurable: choose mini-LGX or LGX housing, one of 20 selectable 100 GHz channel pairs on the ITU-T G.694.1 grid from Ch.21/22 through Ch.59/60, and an optional 1310nm window port.
Filtering uses thin film filter (TFF) technology with a passband greater than 0.22nm and 100 GHz (0.8nm) channel spacing. Adjacent and non-adjacent channel isolation is 25dB and 35dB. Insertion loss is 1.2dB without the window port and 1.5dB with the 1310nm window port enabled. Channel pass-band ripple is 0.5dB, polarization dependent loss is 0.1dB, polarization mode dispersion is 0.1ps, and return loss is 45dB. Maximum power handling is 500mW and connectors are LC/UPC.
As a passive optical element with no active or electronic components, the unit is data rate and protocol neutral, compatible with any wavelength matched DWDM optic carrying Ethernet, SONET/SDH or Fibre Channel signals. Operating temperature is 0 to 70C, storage temperature is -40 to 85C, and MTBF is rated at 1,000,000 hours, with CE, ISO, ITU-T G.694.1 and RoHS compliance. Frequently Asked Questions
How is the SDLT-1 line termination unit different from EDGE's two-sided DWDM OADM units?
The SDLT-1 is a one-sided unit. It extracts and inserts a single 100 GHz channel pair only at the location where it is installed and does not pass that channel toward the far end of the fiber link. EDGE's two-sided add/drop (OADM) units sit between two line segments and pass every channel through except the pair being added or dropped. Confirm which class of unit the application needs before ordering, since the two designs are not interchangeable.
Which DWDM channel pairs can be selected on the SDLT-1, and what standard defines the grid?
The SDLT-1 is configurable to any one of 20 selectable 100 GHz DWDM channel pairs, from Ch.21/Ch.22 through Ch.59/Ch.60, on the ITU-T G.694.1 fixed 100 GHz grid (1560.61 to 1529.55 nm). This is the DWDM channel grid. It is not the same standard as ITU-T G.694.2, which defines the CWDM grid, so confirm the target channel pair against a G.694.1 reference before ordering.
Should I choose mini-LGX or LGX housing for the SDLT-1?
Housing selection is a mechanical fit decision and does not change the unit's optical specification, insertion loss, or isolation figures. Choose the housing type, mini-LGX or LGX, that matches the shelf or chassis slot already in use at the installation site.
Does adding the 1310nm window port increase insertion loss on the SDLT-1?
Yes. Insertion loss is 1.2dB in the standard configuration without the window port, and 1.5dB when the 1310nm window port is enabled. Factor the higher figure into the link budget calculation for any deployment that selects the window port option.
