1-Channel Double Fiber DWDM OADM Overview
The DDAD-1 is a passive double-fiber DWDM add/drop multiplexer that adds or drops a single 100GHz-spaced ITU-T G.694.1 channel on each side of the link while passing the remaining express channels through. It ships in mini-LGX or LGX housings with LC/UPC connectors, and an optional 1310nm window port is available for out-of-band supervisory signals. Housing, DWDM channel (Ch.21 to Ch.60), and the window port option are selected to configure the exact unit for a given deployment.

1-Channel Double Fiber DWDM 2-Side Add/Drop Multiplexer (DDAD-1) Description
DDAD-1-CFG is a 1-channel double fiber DWDM optical add/drop multiplexer that adds and drops one 100 GHz channel on both sides while all other channels pass through. It operates on the ITU-T G.694.1 100 GHz grid, channels 21 through 60 (1560.61 to 1529.55 nm), with 0.8 nm channel spacing and a passband greater than 0.22 nm. As a passive component, it needs no external power.
The unit uses thin film filter (TFF) technology to separate the selected channel from the express path. 1-channel OADMs sit at mid-span sites, accessing one wavelength locally while the remaining channels continue through in point-to-point, linear chain or ring topologies.
Insertion loss on the passband is 1 dB. Adjacent channel isolation is 25 dB and non-adjacent channel isolation is 35 dB, with passband ripple held to 0.5 dB. Polarization dependent loss is 0.1 dB, polarization mode dispersion is 0.1 ps, return loss is 45 dB, and maximum power handling is 500 mW.
DDAD-1-CFG is built to order to three configuration choices: mini-LGX or LGX housing, the selected 100 GHz channel from Ch.21 through Ch.60, and an optional 1310 nm window port. The window port, when selected, lets an external optical power meter check signal power, wavelength and OSNR without breaking the live traffic path. Insertion loss for the window port is 1.0 dB, listed as '1% Monitor Port' in the specification. All configurations ship with LC/UPC connectors.
Operating temperature range is 0 to 70 C at 5 to 95% humidity; storage temperature runs -40 to 85 C. MTBF is rated at 1,000,000 hours. The module carries CE and ISO marks, meets ITU-T G.694.1 and complies with RoHS. Each unit is built to order to the selected configuration. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a ROADM and an OADM?
An OADM adds and drops a wavelength that is fixed at build time and does not change without physically reconfiguring or replacing the unit. A ROADM uses active switching elements to change which wavelengths are added, dropped or expressed remotely, without a fiber change. DDAD-1-CFG is a fixed-channel OADM: the DWDM channel is set at order time, and the unit is passive, so it requires no external power to operate.
What does a two-sided (East/West) DWDM add/drop multiplexer do, and how does DDAD-1-CFG differ from a line-termination unit?
DDAD-1-CFG adds and drops a single 100 GHz DWDM channel on both sides of a through link, so that one channel can be pulled off and reinserted at the site while every other channel on the fiber continues to the next node in the express path. A line-termination unit sits at the end of a DWDM link and demultiplexes the full channel set there instead of passing express traffic through. DDAD-1-CFG is built for mid-span sites where most traffic keeps moving and only one channel needs to change at that location.
What does the 1310 nm window port do on DDAD-1-CFG?
The 1310 nm window port is an optional build choice that provides a tap point for an optical power meter or detector, so signal power, wavelength and OSNR can be checked without breaking the live traffic path. When selected, the window port carries an insertion loss of 1.0 dB, listed in the specification table under the '1% Monitor Port' label; the main passband insertion loss for the working channel is 1 dB. This is a Yes or No choice at configuration time, and every build uses LC/UPC connectors.
