DDAD-4-2124-M
Configurable 100GHz DWDM Add/Drop Multiplexer
The DDAD-4 is a 4-channel, 100GHz DWDM add/drop multiplexer for 2-side, dual-fiber network topologies. It adds and drops the same channel group on both line directions, supporting ring and protected designs where traffic needs to be handled at two independent line paths from a single node. The unit is available in a configurable format: choose the housing (mini-LGX or LGX), one of 10 wavelength bands on the 100GHz ITU-T G.694.1 grid (Ch.21-24 through Ch.57-60), and an optional 1310nm window port available only with the LGX housing, to match the network channel plan and rack footprint.

4-Channel Double Fiber DWDM 2-Side Add/Drop Multiplexer (DDAD-4) Description
The DDAD-4 is a 4-channel, 100GHz DWDM add/drop multiplexer built for 2-side, dual-fiber operation. It adds and drops the same channel group on both line directions, Line 1 and Line 2, which supports ring and protected network topologies where traffic needs to be added or dropped from two independent line paths at a single node.
This unit is available in a configurable format with 30 combinations. Configuration options include the housing, mini-LGX or LGX, the wavelength band, one of 10 DWDM channel groups spanning Ch.21-24 through Ch.57-60 on the 100GHz ITU-T G.694.1 grid from 1529.55 to 1560.61nm, and an optional 1310nm window port available only with the LGX housing. Select the combination through the product configurator to match the network channel plan and rack footprint.
Passband insertion loss is below 1.8dB and express channel insertion loss is below 2.5dB in the base configuration without the window port. Adding the 1310nm window port raises those figures to below 2.1dB passband and below 3.0dB express, since the window tap itself contributes about 1.0dB. The multiplexer uses thin film filter technology on a 100GHz, 0.8nm channel spacing, with a passband greater than 0.22nm, 25dB isolation on adjacent channels, 35dB isolation on non-adjacent channels, channel passband ripple of 0.5dB, PDL of 0.1dB, PMD of 0.1ps and return loss of 45dB.
Connectors are LC/UPC on all ports. The unit handles up to 500mW of optical power, operates from 0 to 70 C, and stores from -40 to 85 C, with an MTBF of 1,000,000 hours. It carries CE and ISO certification and meets ITU-T G.694.1 and RoHS requirements.
Selecting housing, wavelength band and window port through the configurator determines the exact ordering code for a given deployment. For project quantities, custom channel plans, or additional configuration guidance, contact our sales team.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a 2-side add/drop multiplexer and a line-termination unit?
The DDAD-4 is a 2-side, dual-fiber add/drop multiplexer. It adds and drops the same channel group on both line directions, Line 1 and Line 2, which is what a ring or protected network topology needs. A single-direction (line-termination) unit only taps one direction; EDGE's DDLT family (DDLT-1, DDLT-2, DDLT-4) covers that case. If a design needs channel handling on just one line direction, a DDLT unit is the correct choice instead of the DDAD-4.
Does adding the 1310nm window port increase the DDAD-4's insertion loss?
Yes. The optional 1310nm window port taps off the line signal so a test set or power meter can check link health without disturbing DWDM traffic, but the tap itself costs insertion loss. Passband loss rises from below 1.8dB to below 2.1dB, and express channel loss rises from below 2.5dB to below 3.0dB, when the window port is added. The window port is only available with the LGX housing option in the configurator.
What is the difference between the mini-LGX and LGX housing options?
Both are standard plug-in fiber panel form factors used for passive optical modules. Mini-LGX is the more compact footprint of the two; LGX is the larger footprint. Housing choice affects the physical footprint only, not the optical performance of the base configuration. The optional 1310nm window port is only offered in the LGX housing, and is not available on mini-LGX units.
