2-Channel Double Fiber DWDM OADM Overview
This double-fiber, two-sided DWDM Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (OADM) extracts and re-inserts 2 ITU-T G.694.1 100GHz DWDM channels from a passing link in both the East and West directions. Configure the exact 100GHz channel pair (Ch.21 through Ch.60), mini-LGX or LGX housing, and an optional 1310nm window port to match the ring topology and rack space available.

2 Channels Double Fiber Passive DWDM Two side OADM Unit Description
The DDAD-2-CFG is a passive, two-sided DWDM Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer that adds and drops 2 ITU-T G.694.1 100GHz DWDM channels in both the East and West directions on a ring or point-to-point link, while other wavelengths pass through uninterrupted. The channel pair is selectable across 20 positions from Ch.21 to Ch.60 (1560.61 to 1529.55nm). It uses thin film filter construction with LC/UPC connectors, 25dB adjacent-channel and 35dB non-adjacent isolation, and 45dB return loss.
Two housing options are available: mini-LGX for space-constrained shelves and cabinets, and standard LGX for full-size patch panel and chassis integration. Both housings share the same optical performance; the choice is a rack-space and mounting decision only.
An optional 1310nm window port, a 1% tap, adds a non-intrusive test point for checking signal presence and power on the passing wavelengths without breaking live traffic. Selecting it raises insertion loss from 1.2dB passband and 1.5dB express to 1.5dB passband and 2.0dB express, with the tap itself carrying 1.0dB insertion loss.
Multiple DDAD-2-CFG units can be cascaded along a trunk to add and drop different channel pairs at different points on a ring or span, with matching multiplexer and demultiplexer units terminating each end of the link. Fully passive with no electrical power requirement, it is transparent to data rate and protocol, rated at 1,000,000 hours MTBF across a 0 to 70C operating range.
Each unit is built to order to the selected housing, channel pair, and window port configuration and is covered by a lifetime warranty. For volume quantities or configuration guidance, contact our sales team.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does adding the 1310nm window port increase the DDAD-2-CFG's insertion loss?
Yes. The window port is a 1% tap that provides a non-intrusive test point for checking optical power on the passing wavelengths without breaking the live traffic path. It is an optional addition, not required for the OADM to function, and it adds 1.0dB of insertion loss. With the window port selected, total insertion loss rises from 1.2dB passband and 1.5dB express to 1.5dB passband and 2.0dB express.
Should I order the double-fiber DDAD-2-CFG or a single-fiber DWDM OADM?
The DDAD-2-CFG adds and drops its 2 DWDM channels across a dedicated fiber pair, one fiber per direction, the arrangement used in point-to-point, ring, or bus topologies that already run separate transmit and receive fibers. A single-fiber OADM instead adds and drops channels over one shared fiber carrying both directions. Confirm which fiber plan the ring or span already uses before choosing between a double-fiber and a single-fiber OADM model.
Can multiple DDAD-2-CFG units be cascaded along the same ring or trunk?
Yes. Additional OADM units can be placed at different points along the same ring or linear trunk, each dropping and adding its own channel pair, with a matching multiplexer and demultiplexer terminating each end of the optical link. Because the unit is fully passive, cascading additional units does not require local power at each site. Check the cumulative insertion loss across all cascaded units and the terminal MUX/DEMUX equipment against the link's optical budget.
