20 Channels Single Fiber DWDM Mux/Demux B-Side: SDMD-20B

The SDMD-20B is a 20 channel single fiber DWDM multiplexer/demultiplexer built for Side B of a bidirectional BiDi DWDM link. It combines and separates 40 ITU-T C-band wavelengths across Ch.21-60 (1560.61 to 1529.55 nm) at 100 GHz spacing, carrying the full channel count over a single fiber strand instead of a conventional fiber pair. The unit is designed to pair with the Side A unit, SDMD-20A. The two units run opposite transmit and receive polarity so light travels in both directions on the shared strand, and both sides are required together to complete the link.

Channel separation uses AAWG (Gaussian passband) filter technology, giving a passband width greater than 0.22 nm per channel. Maximum insertion loss is 3.7 dB across the passband, with adjacent channel isolation of 27 dB, non adjacent channel isolation of 35 dB, and channel pass-band ripple of 1.2 dB. Polarization dependent loss is held to 0.5 dB, polarization mode dispersion to 0.5 ps, and return loss to 45 dB. The unit handles up to 500 mW of optical input power and carries an MTBF rating of 1,000,000 hours.

The 1310nm Window Port is the one configurable option on this unit, ordered as SDMD-20B-31-U with the port included or SDMD-20B-U without it. The port gives out-of-band access for monitoring and testing the DWDM signal without interrupting active traffic on the link. The chassis is a 19 inch, 1U rack mount enclosure with LC/UPC connectors. Operating temperature is rated 0 to 70 C with 5 to 95 percent humidity, and storage temperature extends to -40 to 85 C, so the unit tolerates typical telecom and data center cabinet environments. The design carries CE and ISO marks, RoHS compliance, and follows the ITU-T G.694.1 DWDM frequency grid.
