GLC-GE-100FX Cisco special FE module for GE ports

   There could be situations when you could need to use Gigabit Ethernet Port at Fast Ethernet speeds on Cisco switches or routers, to do that we need to use special transceiver. Cisco routers and switches does not support to use GE optical transceiver in 100M speed. The electro-optical component operates only at the single rated speed.

 

   If you like to make GE (Gigabit Ethernet) port to work in FE (Fast Ethernet) speeds, there is necessity to use special type of Cisco module: GLC-GE-100FX=

Cisco original description is as below, but basically it is special hardware module (with SGMII interface) which can ensure that when plugged in GE port it will do the conversion and it will be possible to use port on 100M speeds.
